Resources

MinimumRecommended
Cores24 or more
Memory4 GB8 GB or more
Free disk50 GBMore, depending on how much video you keep

Disk is the one that catches people out. Video segments being broadcast take up temporary space continuously, and if you also store films or series that is separate again, and it grows with no natural limit.

Network

  • Ports 80 and 443 free on the server. If another web server is listening there, it has to go first.
  • Outbound internet from the server: to download the images, activate the licence and renew it every few hours.
  • Your viewers do not need internet. They connect to this server, and work just the same on an internal network with no way out.

Optional, depending on what you plan to do

  • NVIDIA graphics card — for hardware encoding and for the video-on-demand transcoder. The system works without one; with many channels that need re-encoding, you notice.
  • DVB adapters — only if you are going to receive satellite or cable channels directly.

The installer detects both and enables the matching layers. They are not always on for a practical reason: asking for a card that is not there stops the container from starting, so a normal installation would be exactly the one that fails to come up.
